Dreams – Beneficial and Entertaining While You Sleep

According to the Hindu tradition there are three levels of consciousness, which are waking, dreamless sleep, and dreamful sleep. Tradition goes on to say that, in order to live in balance, and in harmony, we must optimize our experience of all three states of consciousness. We might think that dreaming during sleep is unimportant, because it deprives our bodies of REM sleep, but scientists have proven that if we do not dream during sleep we can become irritable, vague, easily fatigued and have a difficult time with memory. This goes to show that dreaming is just as important as sleeping itself.

Dreams happen when we are asleep, and is an unconscious experience of images, sounds, and other sensations. Some dreams open impossible circumstances and can take the dreamer great distances over an extremely short period of time. Other dreams, like lucid dreams are extremely real and the sleeper can sometimes realize that they are sleeping while in the dream.

Dreams occur when we have reached the REM phase of sleep. During the REM sleep a chemical called Dimethyltryptamine is released in the brain. The chemical acts like a hallucinogen and creates the dreams. The only time this chemical is released in the brain is during REM sleep, and right before death.

Dreams have been used since the beginning of time to predict events, inspire artwork, and help is explore our inner consciousness of our minds. They have always been a mystery of content, lights, images, and sounds. Many times dreams do not reflect our real lives, but they are a passage to our subconscious.

Because dreams are vivid, yet short, it is almost impossible to force yourself into a designated dream. Humans have been trying to interpret the meanings behind dreams for thousands of years. The interpretation of dreams has been studied by almost every major religion and dream dedicated scientific group.

If you would like to analyze your own dreams, then it’s a good idea to keep a journal. The most beneficial way to do this is to keep a notebook or some pieces of paper by the side of your bed. Then when you wake up in the morning you should be able to recall most of your dreams. The longer you wait to record your dream, the less detail you will remember. You can then hang onto the journal for a while and read through it every once in a while to look for dream patterns.
